SAN FRANCISCOIP vendor Virage Logic Corp. has joined Power.org, the group that promotes and develops standards for Power Architecture, the organization said Monday (June 29).
Virage Logic (Fremont, Calif.) recently announced an agreement with IBM designating the company as an IBM PowerPC Design Center, granting it the rights to license and distribute IBM's PowerPC processor and peripheral cores when combined with Virage Logic's portfolio of semiconductor IP.
Kaveh Massoudian, Power.org's chief technology officer, said in a statement that Virage Logic's participation in the group would enable PowerPC-based designs to leverage the key IP.
"The company's technology and expertise will provide a valuable asset to the Power Architecture ecosystem, making Power Architecture technology available to the mass market and to the mainstream fabless semiconductor market," Massoudian said.
Power.org claims more than 20 member companies, including chip vendors, EDA providers and others.
